Western Astrology

Western astrology, as the name would suggest, is mostly popular in Western countries, although it was practiced for thousands of years in Arabian countries and Europe. It is considered geocentric because everything relates to the earth as being the center of the universe.
Originating in Mesopotamia during the 2nd millennium B.C., Western astrology was important in Medieval Europe when making political or military decisions. Most Western astrologers use the tropical zodiac, which begins at the Northern hemisphere's Vernal Equinox around the 21st of March; some astrologers prefer the sidereal zodiac which uses actual star positions. Western astrology is also called the Sayana system.

Aspects
Aspects are based on the distances of planets in Western astrology and incorporate the nature of the planets involved. Conjunction represents degrees between planets while Opposition represents 180 degrees. Other aspects included in culminating a horoscope are the other major aspects: sextile, square, trine and the minor aspects: semi sextile, semi square, sesquiquadrate and quincunx, each having a different degree between planets and corresponding with an evil or good aspect to varying levels.
Charts
Predictions in Western astrology are based on these three charts. The Natal Chart might be the most commonly known and is drawn up for the birth date and time of an individual. The Progressed Chart is prepared for a particular year of prediction and the Transit Chart represents current transitions of planets in that year.
Western astrology holds many great traditions but always welcomingly incorporates newly found additions of the solar system. It is a challenging field of study that ends with different results with different astrologers because most predictions are based on a professional’s experience within the field.
